King Krules latest project is an absorbing journey. Its a much more refinedalbum than his last, and every element of the project has clearly beenlaboured over. The meticulous layering to A New Place 2 Drown is omnipresent across all 12 tracks, withhouse-nodding synths and sombre 808 beats weaving their way in and out of background to foreground. These lyrics were also evident on Mssrs IV, with a few exceptions such as Ill Never find my place, which is a very personal and emo lyric. But, that doesnt mean theres not some fascinating lyrics in the entire album.This record also features the perfect percussion player, the brilliant Stanley Unwin. His work on the album is varied and layered, but his work on the album hits on the nugget of ska that makes King Krules music so enjoyable. It rocks and it also hums, but what makes it really hum is the underlying half-time beat. The fourth song of the album, Love Goes Mad is no exception. King Krules half-time beat compliments the crashing cymbals and other percussion perfectly to create this beautiful little rock n roll drum break.Duck Magazines list of the albums Top 50 Albums of 2013 is quite long, and King Krule is listed as ~~#21~~, but I think he deserves more respect than that. Especially with his debut album, which if anything, should be considered a classic. Think about how few debut albums get to be placed in the Top 100, but this one is an exception. As many of you know, the king of modern pop music has a few other musical interests aside from just music. One of these musical interests is the art of BBQ. At least this is what Ive heard, King Krules love for pork comes out in every song on the album, with the perfect lyrics, like the title track Fishfinger in a can or the chorus of the songs Bring the noise. I wonder if any other celebrity is so fond of pork, or any other type of meat for that matter. A Kings Guard are only 6 feet under the moon and hes probably not having a lot of great BBQ experiences these days, but I guarantee he wouldnt complain. 6a6f617c0c
