Why not submit this as a PR to Nim stdlib?

Issue #11 wontfix

Hello,

I have been a happy user of your strfmt library.

I was glad to see that someone created a strformat library (not glad that it was named too similar to the strfmt library) that mimics the Python f strings. An even more unfortunate fact is that it has a fmt macro that does completely different than the fmt in strfmt.

So I opened this issue: https://github.com/nim-lang/Nim/issues/6958

  • Would you be interested to chime in on that issue?
  • Can strfmt be moved into the new strformat?
  • Can the Nim/strformat and your strfmt both live together harmoniously? i.e. I get to use the Python .format function using your fmt and the f-string feature using the macro from the strformat library.

You might have to read this whole issue at least twice because the way the new library is named similarly and the macro in that library is named the exact same fmt, it can get very confusing.

Actually, I'm not involved or using Nim anymore (and I do not do any development for strfmt besides fixing a bug from time to time). And, I do neither follow the development no do I have an idea what strformat does.

However, the code is free, so if anyone wants to integrate strfmt and strformat, please do.

I appreciate your reply. Apologies for my late reply.

As I don't know Nim too well, I can only hope that someone else can take over your awesome work and merge that into Nim core.
