permpoly capabilities

The "coord" template, which interfaces with GeoHack, only seems to work adequately for a single point on a map (e.g. a building).

However, many of the at-present 144,991 Wikipedia "articles needing coordinates" concern an AREA on a map, not a single point.

I'm getting tired of half-baked workarounds with the "coord" template.

Today, I looked at the source code on wikimapia for "Peter F. Armistead, Sr., House" (http://wikimapia.org/31648770/Peter-F-Armistead-Sr-House). This wikimapia page includes a satellite image from Google Maps that nicely highlights the entire area covered by the landmark. The source code invokes Google Maps with a "permpoly=31648770" parameter, which I assume creates the highlight.

In GeoHack, when we click on the "Map" or "Satellite" links, why can't GeoHack similarly invoke Google Maps with a "permpoly" parameter value to display a highlighted area? Relatedly, why can't the "coord" template be enhanced with a "permpoly" parameter?

Surely, an irrelevant answer is "Google Maps are copyrighted". We would not be including a Google map in a Wiki article; we would simply be invoking Google Maps with an additional parameter.
