New button in date game?

Issue #72 new

I think an "approximate date" button (or something along those lines), operating similarly to the flag button, would be useful in the date game. The game isn't equipped to handle people with birthdates like "c. 1660" so I'm flagging a lot of them, but there are enough of these that I'm guessing my flags are clogging up the relevant page. It might be good to sort them out on a separate page for manual review, or even for a separate game in a later phase.

I tried to look up on wikidata whether the data model supports this, but couldn't find anything. I'd expect a "precision" qualifier to be added to the date, or something like that, but I'm not sure whether something has already been decided by the community. Does anyone know?

According to what I saw on the help pages, you have to go in and add multiple options for the birth and death dates, according to the level of precision that exists. For example, c. 1840 might be 1835, 1836, 1837, 1838, 1839, 1840, 1841, 1842, 1843, 1844, 1845. Obviously that isn't something that makes sense in the context of a simple game like this...

To clarify, when I requested an "approximate date" button, I didn't mean for a way to directly input "c. 1820" because I don't think that makes sense for a simple game. I wanted it to just put the request somewhere else for later processing.

Well, there's the flag button, but the tooltip (and the message left on wikidata) would have to be customized per game. Which is a good idea overall anyway, since anyone not familiar with the game won't know for sure which reasons items in the flagged items list are there for...

Also, a little off-topic, but does Wikidata really expect us to enter multiple dates to signify a lack of precision? That's awful! why stop at 5 years as in your example? When the exact range is known (and this is the case in some articles I've seen) it should be entered explicitly, but most often there should just be a "fuzzy" qualifier for such a date, IMHO.
