Photos and location don't always match
I have been doing some checking to see if photos and information match the location marked on the map. Many do, some don't. Since the photos are tagged to a Wikipedia article, the photos might end up on the correct page.
The issue is if someone goes to a location on the map expecting to find a structure or entity, it may not be there because it was miss marked initially.
As an example, in the Thailand, the National Memorial is located on Phaholyothin Rd., but I found a photo marked on Lumlukka Khlong Song marked as the National Memorial. All photos of the National Memorial, or any entity for that matter, should be very close to the actual location of the entity.
This issue can arise from how precise the coordinates are entered. One solution would be to cross reference uploaded photo coordinates to locations derived from Google Maps or other geography database.
I must say, though, I am impressed with your concept and see great merit in it. I think something similar could be implemented for photos of flora and fauna, aiding in the identification and tracking of plant and animal species.
Great job!
Whenever you find such a picture, please edit its coordinates on the picture’s Commons webpage. Thanks!
This is not a bug of the wikishootme tool.
