Taking snapshots without HUDs while on RLV devices

Issue #41 new
Former user created an issue

I've noticed that when I'm on an RLV device, like a statue plinth, I'm unable to take a snapshot without including my HUDs, regardless of what restrictions the device sends. This also has the effect of limiting my snapshot resolution to that of the current screen.

This might just be the expected behaviour, I suppose as a way to keep from getting around blindfolds, but... it would be really great if, when not blindfolded, I could take pictures normally.

I spend lots of time as an un-blindfolded statue that takes pictures :)

It doesn't look like the blacklist thing would help me... maybe something along the lines of the setting that prevents your windlight settings from changing?

I hope I haven't missed something obvious here... Thank you for the viewer, and Kittin, for the mac version.

It is the expected behavior when there is a locked HUD. Having a separate explicit RLV behavior for this would have had less "false positives", but changing this now would suddenly make all old blindfolds cheatable :(.

Ah.... I was kind of expecting that this was normal, but I had to ask :)

It just seemed odd to me, that, even if I make an RLV device that sends just one restriction (for example, blocking the mini map), it sort of assumes I'm wearing a locked HUD, and effects my picture taking. The only other thing I have locked is my collar. Unless relays count as locked when you're locked on to something?

This probably just effects me more, since I'm much more likely to be taking pictures than wearing a blindfold, and in that case, I get a restriction applied that neither the object's creator or owner intended.

It does not appear to force you to take pictures of your HUDs under the same circumstance when using a RLVa viewer (I forgot to mention this bit before). Then again, I'm not sure how those ones work with blindfolds...

    Thank you, Satomi

The option to hide HUD's while takeing pictures is global, you hide all of them or non of them, If you have a locked HUD it has to prevent hideing them, because as you point out blindfold could be cheated out of, It sounds to me that you are wearing your relay as a HUD so you get locked as a statue, your relay is locked, so no hideing HUDS.

The workround is to attach the relay somewhere else, eg: shove the relay script in your hair or some other attachement so its not on a HUD, then you will have no locked HUD's , still be under control from the relay and able to hide HUD's to take pictures.

Now, I believe this would be implementable, and a good tradeoff, to "derender" only HUDs that are not locked while taking a picture.

    Thank you Beverly!

What you suggested works! I guess, even thought I didn't choose the lock option on my relay HUD, it becomes *technically* locked when being used to apply restrictions, thereby triggering my picture taking annoyance... I just tried it with my relay in my hand, and I was able to take high resolution pictures without any of my HUDs showing up.

I'm glad someone was finally able to explain that one to me!

I like your suggestion too, Satomi, because then I could just have a tiny relay peeking out of the corner of my screen. I'd still get to see the blinking lights. Although in that case, I suppose it would still limit screen shots to the screen resolution. I think having any HUD showing will do that.

Now to find a place to stick a relay...
