Uniqueness of names, and feature suggestion

Issue #59 new

Maybe I'm imagining this, but I thought the viewer tried to avoid using the same substitute name (@shownames) if possible. Seeing a situation here with 3 avs around and two have the same alternative name. If the viewer ever did have that feature, it's not working at the moment.

This gives me the idea for a related feature request... how about a severe setting that forces everyone to the same name (eg for very muffling helmets where voices can't be told apart)

It doesn't check the uniqueness of a dummy name, but the hash function is made in a way that it is both fast and as equally random as possible. The case you experienced is just very bad luck, but if the RLV did check for the existence of a dummy name in a list, it would slow down whenever receiving a message (I tried in the past).

As for your suggestion, I don't think it would require a new RLV command, you can do this with the existing commands and a script that blocks all hearing, my Jammer does that already. Granted, the "..." line would show the name or the dummy name and not just a generic umbrella name. But I think it would be very confusing to the user if all the names were completely hidden. And if the user cannot recognize voices, then why would they hear anything at all ?
