Foo Six years have passed since the viral outbreak in Raccoon City. The Umbrella Corporation has gone bankrupt due to a crash in stock sales after it is revealed that they are to blame for the incident. One of the few survivors, Leon S. Kennedy, has been trained by U.S. Special Forces to protect the President of the United States and his family. His first day on the job, he is sent to a remote location in Europe to retrieve the President's daughter, Ashley Graham. Awaiting Leon is a slew of unspeakable creatures, a "curse" that attacks the body, rendering the victim powerless to the control of sadistic, inhuman forces that would destroy everything Leon holds dear. Now, he must rescue Ashley and uncover a plot that could lead to ultimate global destruction. His time is running out, and a few familiar faces may well be his undoing. Six years after the viral outbreak that destroyed Racoon City, former police officer Leon S. Kennedy is a federal agent sent to Europe to search for the President's daughter. Unfortunately for him, he stumbles upon a scenario frighteningly similar to what he encountered back in Racoon City. While not a die-hard RE fan, Capcom has always presented exceptional games in every aspect of play (My personal favorite is the Onimusha Trilogy). Even is the early Street Fighters, the graphics for an old system were something else. Now, with the latest installment in the Resident Evil series, the greatest graphics in the world have possibly been found.

Thus, I shall start with graphics. The graphics in the game are so intense that I can only describe them as Onimusha tripled (sad to say). This, coupled with spectacular shots and "camera" movements make for the most spectacular "cinematography" in a video game ever. (Sadly enough, though it's a close tie with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, the latter lacks the astonishing graphics and shots in the few cut scenes to make it just right.) It's amazing to finally see a video game that presents realistically moving body parts, such as the finer details like the hair. However, the chief flaw in these is the lack of definition on more minor things, such as enemies. The Old-Western hue of everything and the fall scenery and dull enemy clothing provides a difficulty in seeing your enemies (unless, of course, they're brandishing scythes or sticks of dynamite.) Otherwise, the game merits some sort of award for graphics.

And, the crucial component: gameplay. The over-the-shoulder shooting style is a new and unique fighting mode that prevents you from moving while attempting to shoot. Of course, this provides more of a sense of realism. You can't ACTUALLY aim quite as well as C.J. from GTA: San Andreas while speeding in a car or running from the cops. This style also provides you with an intense problem when you're being attacked in large numbers ("en masse!"). If you've got people surrounding you, you've gotta break out of shooting mode to run away, and that's a half-second that you never have to spare. Which, in turn, brings me to another original aspect of gameplay: split-second input! I have never seen a game with interactive cut scenes. You can never stop to just watch the cut scenes anymore. Now, you must be on the lookout for either the "L+R" or "A+B" button combinations in order to avoid gruesome death. In some cases, you just have time to catch the colors before you can press the combination. And, while there are only two possible combinations, you can NEVER be sure which one it is. Each time you play the scene or point in gameplay, the combination could potentially change. If you don't like a challenge, DON'T PLAY THIS GAME! As for voice-acting, it still has the occasional corny line in all Capcom games, but from other Resident Evil games, it has improved. However, in all actuality, it lacks a sense of realism. That, and something else I can't quite put my finger on. I'll get back to you.

All-in-all, one of the most intense, visually stunning games I've ever played. 9 outta 10. This is the most intense, scariest, and pulse pounding games I have ever played. The graphics are great, the deaths are gruesome, and the enemies are terrifying. This game is not for the squeamish though. A little example of why is you can get decapitated by a chainsaw, get clawed through the face, chopped in half, smashed, and torn to pieces.

This is the story in a nutshell. Your sent o Europe to find presidents daughter. People aren't exactly nice. You find girl. She gets captured A lot because Leon wont give her a gun. You kill some bosses and kill a lot of Gandos. You escape island on jetski. Girl wants to have(MAJOR SPOILER) sex with you. The End.

11/10

The Wii version, released in 2007, which earned a rating of 17+ instead of 18+, was censored even worse. No. The game itself indicates that the first victim killed by Leon is not a zombie (probably also meant as an in-joke). Prior to the release of RE4, the creators have also stated several times that there would be NO zombies in the game.

That is, no TYPICAL zombies. The word zombie is normally associated with a reanimated corpse that has little intelligence, merely driven by a hunger for flesh of the living, as was the case in the earlier Resident Evil games and many horror movies as well. In the RE chronology, the zombies arose from a virus infection. The victims experienced cellular reorganization, their conciousness was complete erased, and their higher brain functions (intelligence) were severely deteriorated, leaving a creature driven only by instinctual desire for food and killing, without any outside control. In addition, as the zombies manifested themselves after the victims' death, they always moved slow and limping, probably as a side-effect of rigor mortis (except for the Crimson Head zombies).

The humans in Resident Evil 4 are victims of infection by an intelligent parasite, which attaches itself to the central nervous system in order to control the host's actions (similar to the aliens in Robert Heinleins novel The Puppet Masters). In this case, no large-scale cellular reconstruction seems to take place in the 'Ganados', the victims that still appear human (not that we know off, that is). Only in special creatures, like El Gigante (the giant cave troll-like creature) and the Regenerators, there seems to be a thorough change in the host's physiology. In any way, the host's conciousness, individuality and intelligence are repressed, but they gain the intelligence and personality of the parasite that infected them. Their hostility seems to be a deliberate act to disable opponents, not just an instinctive urge for gathering food. Since they have not physically died, they also retain their speed and agility. So they are not zombies in the classical meaning of the word. What they do have in common is that they have no free will and individuality; however, contrary to the zombies, the parasites seem to be part of a hierarchy, accepting orders from superior parasites.
