HDPTopicModel availability

Issue #38 resolved
Benjamin Walther created an issue

Hi there,

In the Overview documentation HDPTopicModel is mentioned as supported probabilistic model, however i do not see that in he code.

Is that on the roadmap ?

Also I would be interested to reproduce results mentioned in "Truly Nonparametric Online Variational Inference for Hierarchical Dirichlet Processes" by Michael Bryant and Erik B. Sudderth Would that be possible with bnpy?

Thanks a lot Ben

Thanks for bumping this issue... sorry I dropped it in August while on vacation.

The HDPTopicModel has been available in bnpy-dev since last December... sorry for confusion. The inference algorithm is from our AISTATS 2015 paper (citation on the Resources page of the wiki).

Here's a demo of this algorithm on toy data: https://bitbucket.org/michaelchughes/bnpy-dev/wiki/demos/BarsToyData-HDPTopicModel-VariationalWithMergeDelete.rst

The earlier algorithm by Bryant and Sudderth is not available and not quite on the roadmap, though I hope to have a similar algorithm (that can create new topics) available someday soon). After that paper was published, we've realized that proposal moves in the stochastic setting lacked guarantees and can lead to really bad behavior (some of which we show in the AISTATS paper).
