Quote Loader will automatically download and save the prices/rates for your Securities and/or Exchange Rates. It does this by running in the background which is started when Moneydance is opened.
Quote Loader reads its Parameters and determines if an auto run is required. It will start the run straight away if one is due. If one is not due Quote Loader will check every hour to see if one is due. If one is due Quote Loader will attempt to start an automatic run. If you have Quote Loader open you will receive this message:
On the other hand if you try to open Quote Loader when an automatic run is running you will receive this message:
You can see when Quote Loader has finished as there will be a message in the Moneydance Status Bar at the bottom of the screen.
On an automatic run Quote Loader will keep track of which quotes were unsuccessful. If there are any problems you will receive this message:
After receiving this message open Quote Loader and the Price Date of those lines in error will be Red and will have an asterisk to the right of the date as shown here:
Setting up Automatic Running
Automatic Running is set up on the Parameters tab. The top half of this screen has the Automatic Running Parameters which look like this:
The Automatic Running parameters are split into two sets, one for Securities and one for Exchange Rates. Both sets work the same.
Before you set the parameters in each set you need to select when Automatic Running should start. You do this by choosing the time using the Time of Run parameter (1). The options are 'At Startup' or an hour between 02:00 and 24:00. Please note that for Quote Loader to do its Automatic Run, Moneydance must be running.. However, if Moneydance is not running when a Quote Loader Automatic Run is due it will run the next time you start Moneydance.
To set up Automatic Running for Securities and/or Exchange Rates you need to set up the period Quote Loader should run. Select field (2) for Securities and (3) for Exchange Rates. You will be presented with the following options:
