Despawning boats

Basically when a player places a boat it despawn's within seconds. It doesn't break and it doesn't pop back into the users inventory either.

Can you give any more info on this? Does it happen only in particular places or what? I've been unable to replicate.

So far it seems to only happen in oceans, and other than that there isn't much else that I could offer that would be useful. The water is usually 2+ blocks deep, and seems to affect players randomly, one day neither me nor another regular user could use it, today everyone but a few regualar users could use it.
