Everyone whines about /wilderness putting them in ocean. i’m not sure how possible it is to fix, but being in the ocean could be avoided by it not including the large amount of ocean is the northeastern and northern part of the map.
I’m not sure this is actually possible though.

This is possible in 1.12 because spreadplayers in that version refuses to teleport players on to water, lava, or in the void. You can detect for that in the command output and then try teleporting somewhere else. See /tpto for an example.
