MAX QP

Issue #251 duplicate
Stacey Spears created an issue

x264 has a maxqp option. I used then when creating my Blu-ray test disc(s) as it allowed me to get as close to lossless as possible and still be Blu-ray complaint.

Today I have to use the QP file and set to 0. Even then, its not perfect as the QP has gone above 0.

Was hoping you could add the maxqp flag to x265. I would still want it to also enforce other constraints, such as VBV. If I violate the constraints. report the error on the command line and I will adjust the QP up accordingly.

On my current disc, using x264, 99% of my patterns are encoded as QP 0. Usually just a single frame file as well for the static patterns. About the only thing that does not encode at QP 0 and meet the BD constraints is a full screen zone plate pattern.

BD does not support still frame or lossless modes, so QP 0 is as close as I can get. I am going for mathematically lossless since these patterns are used to evaluate video playback pipelines.

This is an odd request and I imagine low priority since not many besides me will use it. Though, fixed QP was always useful when testing new features. So either fixed QP or maxqp would be great!

Sorry Tom, was not sure who to assign to since this is my first request.

Best,

Stacey
