since casio's argument for them is that you can perform on the things and produce music on the things- the argument is pretty much moot. the original mz-2000 series did not have built-in guitar or bass modes, only midi or cv. the mz-x1000 takes midi, cv, and guitar modes and the bass part out of the mix. i've been using a casio px-160 and finally got my mz-2000 so i can finally do something with it. the casio mz-2000 also does not have analog effects and guitar modes. the px-160 has a guitar mode that cycles through a different effect, like envelope, filter, and resonant filter, with the sound of a guitar. if you really want a guitar-esque sound, you need to run through a guitar mode on a guitar pedal. casio also has the thing where you tell it to do things to the sound, but you cannot control it from the 2000. so instead of doing that you can use the 2000's sampler and songwriter's features to create your songs. there are some guitar modes in the free casio mz-2000 here. if you've programmed in casio in the past and remember a way to program the mz-2000, they gave a lot of people their jobs, and it wouldn't be fair to assume all they have is gone. but i seem to have been one of the folks who was pretty confused about where their old waveforms went once it was decided to ditch them. this is the nice thing about the casio mz-2000. there are several ways to get an effect going. the more organized way is to start with a pre-programmed style tones pack of your choice, like a casio mz 2000 exclusive style tones pack or the newest style tones packs. the pack includes a file for the style free that is loopable. one can click and drag one of the patterns onto the style free to make a pattern. the free pack also has another method to create a style tones pack. in this method, it does not include a style free. the load method is pretty awesome though. the style tones can also be created by the user within casio music studio. new rhythm patterns created are also available in the download packs. 6a6f617c0c
