Issue #22 resolved

Could you implement Swallow function? → when open pictures, videos or something in terminal, open it in the same window and not in a separate window.

Hello, sorry for the delayed response.

This isn't very high on my priorities so it won't be added anytime soon (if at all). This is a good candidate for writing a patch or port dwms patch to dk.

No problem, if it was a more prominent feature then more window managers would have it but as it stands it's very niche and not something I use personally. Porting dwm patches to dk is fairly easy so I'd suggest giving it a go if you really want to use dk. Otherwise it's no real loss to me, dk was only ever intended to serve my needs and has since grown a lot bigger. With the amount of window managers out there I don't feel bad for rejecting ideas, use whichever supports the features you want or write them.

You misunderstood. I don't want to denigrate your work, because you put the dk together fantastically. I like it better than bspwm, which I currently use (supplemented with the swallow function, there is a separate solution for it). It's just a waste of space from Tiling Windows alone without the swallow feature because it takes up 2 windows on the screen instead of 1, and I basically work on a 15.6" notebook. I'll keep watching your work because regardless, I like it and will be happy to switch to it as soon as this feature is available.

I’ve been working on porting it so possibly something to look forward to if you’re still interested.

Awesome, I’m pretty sure I’ve got it all working correctly as of 4e99638, but I’d love some more testing in case I missed something. One thing of note is that it’s called absorb in dk instead of swallow and floating windows cannot be absorbed, everything else should be basically the same as the dwm patch. There is a couple rules in the example dkrc similar to the ones provided with dwm, the README/manpage have also been updated.

Cheers and thanks for your patience,

    Nathaniel
