Tiled layouts: sometimes `rtile` triggers a layout partition randomly.
Hey, I’ve been using dk as a daily driver for a good while now and so far it’s been all I want from a wm.
However, I’ve been having issues with at least rtile
layout (don’t use the others that much) where it sometimes randomly “partitions” the layout ie. triggers a split horizontally where nothing appears in the new “partitioned” space. This doesn’t happen if I only have one window open, but if I have two and don’t input anything for a while it happens, sometimes quite often.
I’m left wondering if this is something on my end triggering the split, or if this is a known bug or could be dk responding to something it shouldn’t
Sorry of the issue isn’t very clear, I’m new to reporting these! Would submit a PR if I had any idea how to develop WM’s but alas I’m just a lowly web dev!

repo owner I'll look into it, was having some issues like this from steam notifications some time ago but they fixed it on their end.
Can I ask what windows you have open and what I might do to reproduce this?
Cheers,
Nathaniel

reporter Hey, thanks for replying!
Most of the time this has happened to me when I’m running a browser (I think both firefox and brave) and kitty side by side, but I can’t rule out steam since I sometimes leave it open on another workspace. If this has happened with steam before I wouldn’t rule it out as the cause this time since I do leave it open. I’ll try to come back and report if I can notice a difference between steam open and not.

repo owner My experience was only with steam notifications to be clear, not the client being open.
If possible you could capture a screenshot or even better a recording of the issue, that would help. I’ll try installing kitty and seeing if I can reproduce.

repo owner Also may I ask how you installed dk? I’m just interested in whether you’re running v1.9 from the AUR, the AUR git version, or manual install.
If you’re running
dk
from the AUR please try installingdk-git
instead and see if the problem persists. -
reporter After a couple of days using dk I can’t see it reproducing without steam being active, it’s probably that. I still don’t know how to reproduce it exactly but this I don’t think I’ve encountered it without steam being active. I installed dk from source since it’s not in the void-packages repositories or xbps. I was on master and had the latest version of it the day I posted this.

reporter Also a self correction: I actually use wezterm lmao :D Forgot I used a different terminal at home than at work. But I’ll try to remember to take a screenshot next time it happens.
-
repo owner Any way I could get you to test out the latest commit and let me know if this is still happening?
I’m looking to do a version bump this afternoon and I’m trying to fix any open issues.

Please re-open if still a problem.

reporter Hey Nate, sorry I didn’t get back to you in December! I’ve been so busy I’ve only opened steam once so the bug has been out of sight out of mind. I’m going to sleep but I’ll try and remember to test the latest version tomorrow and report back!

repo owner Sounds good, thanks for the quick response.

reporter Hey Nate, I’ve been working with steam open on a another workspace and I haven’t noticed anything weird. I think you solved it! Thanks for this WM, it is truly been a gem to use on almost all hardware I’ve been trying it on excluding a work thinkpad that for some reason just doesn’t do external displays in the same way as my desktop and other devices.
