As a user, I'd like a more intuitive, pretty and flashy UI for a great experience

Issue #30 new

Specifically:

  • An open button in the header bar. Eye of Gnome doesn’t have it because it is mostly opened by clicking on an image directly. Uniike EoG, Blackbody isn’t by default associated with images, however, so opening from within the app needs to be as easy as possible. Currently it requires 2 clicks.
  • Prettier zoom in/out buttons with plus and minus buttons and a percentage sign, like Drawing and Eye of Gnome have.
  • A zoom panel in the bottom right like Drawing has, which zooms on the fly and is supported by a slider.
  • Maybe: Render palettes chooser in the bottom left, where Drawing has a color chooser. Palettes also presented not by name, but (also?) with a picture.
  • Alternatively: Palette chooser as a small button in the same bar left, but when clicked expands a popover menu (like in Simcity 2000-ish) listing all palettes. Clicking one sets the palettes and closes the menu. For best experience also include the min/max values to render with?
  • Image presentation button also expands a popover menu listing the 4/5 different presentation modes (thermal, optical, …) optionally with mode settings.

Other apps: Drawing

Other apps: Eye of Gnome

Other apps: Thermovision

Source of application is here. This is an example of how not to do it. It is too cluttered, busy and unclear. This application gives me a confused feeling and isn’t sufficiently attractive for me to want to use it. This mainly seems to be because this is a very powerful app with many features (deep thermal analyses, batch processing, image manipulation). It must be commended for that and can therefore serve as a good inspiration for useful features or tools.
