Stability of the testnet
We need to plan for the stability of the testnet, too.

Not sure. We saw a really huge response from the community to support the testnet a while ago. If we implement an important feature, those to which this feature is relevant will support it. I think so, at least.

Its not expensive... I'm running 4 public vps on test net - two in Europe, one in US and one in Japan... They are small and cheap machines... I think since we got the 'switch' in 8.6 - helping with test net is a case of set up a properties file and start NRS so people can easily run both nodes... So i don't think its a priority for now??

Agreed. Closed?

Vote to close...

reporter I think there is more to it than to state that we have enough nodes (do we?) and they are cheap to run. Can we reset the blockchain in a coordinated manner across all nodes? How we make sure that the majority of nodes is updated to the current NRS as seen fit by the developers?

Developers will take care, I think.

reporter Ok.
Not voting, since I think it's (also) InfCom job to plan and cater for a long-term stable and usuable testnet.

yeah you are right...

Couple of points: We are not solely responsible for the health of the entire NXTwork. Inf-Com (like the other committees) is intended to be a tool to streamline the funding process, not to take control/ownership of all NXTwork related issues.
Having said that, I like the brainstorming direction we are taking and there's a lot of useful stuff coming out here, so let's carry on being pro-active, but keep in mind our main function: decisions on funding.
I do think that the Testnet is, like all NXTwork assets, at least partially our responsibilty. If a Testnet project is submitted to us for funding, we should certainly consider it.
And: would it be possible to utilise the Testnet to run a performance benchmark on and then scale those results up to get an estimate of NXTwork performance?

I don't think we need to 'own' anything but I think we all agree we need a TestNet so for me this is about defining 'what' test net is needed and how it might be funded - I don't think we need to own any of it, just encourage the right sustainable test net to develop.
