Update Process of the Network

Issue #46 new
ChuckOne created an issue

We need a clearer update process and better notification service.

A lot of nodes are still below the V1.0.0.

Uniqueorn suggested a mailing list. What do you think about?

@ferment Could you update the nodes of nxtbase.com as well?

mailing list is a good idea. auto-update would be cool too if we had proper packages.

@ChuckOne nxtbase has sailed off into the sunset. so hard fork avoided!

  2. ferment

@ChuckOne if NRS was available as a deb, we could use cron-apt on debian and ubuntu for automatic install of updates (if the node owner wanted).

  3. ChuckOne reporter

Ah, no. Wait. I was referring to a more conceptual level. How can an updater trust an update?

  4. ferment

@ChuckOne JLP sends an AM containing link and SHA to a known address that is monitored nightly. If a new release comes out, boom, auto-update.

  5. ChuckOne reporter

Well, not sure about the auto-update part. An alert seems fine. But people need to get involved. (checking source etc.)
