Penalty for spelling mistake not working

Issue #472 new
Former user created an issue

When typo analysis is turned on, any spelling mistake is automatically marking the entire question incorrect, instead of applying the penalty and marking it as partially correct. This means that you cannot use the typo analysis unless you want a single spelling mistake to make the question worth 0 points. I am using moodle 3.9+ and correct writing version 3.6

Can you please post the full page of your question settings so that we can reproduce the situation?

Just tested the lexical analyzer and it seems to work fine. It seems there is something with setting up your question:

    1. First of all, check that the grade for answers, which use typo analysis, is be greater than “Minimum grade for answer to display mistakes“ parameter. If it is not, only exact match is checked and any spelling mistake will indeed make the response incorrect.
    2. Second, check “Lexical error threshold“ parameter of typo analyzer. This is rate of amount of errors to length of word from answer. If it’s too low, typo analysis won’t recognize typo and may cause another types of mistakes to be recognized, which in their turn may cause answer to be invalid. Also, of course “Penalty for lexical mistake“ must not be too high.
