The decision to fully focus on mobile and IoT was very sensible for Telerik. The company is the only one which produces mobile and IoT desktop products on the market. From WPF to WinForms, from ASP.NET to WinForms - this is the way how to successfully evolve. If you want to create a cross-platform UI of any complexity, you must have some resources on the market and Telerik can boast that it. And even if a choice takes more time and more resources - the product is always the best. And even from the technical standpoint, the two platform are quite similar. The IDE experience is similar: Visual Studio allows you to drag & drop both WinRT UI and WinForms controls onto the XAML and have to reference only one XAML interface. Visual Studio Code is of course missing WinForms but we didnt consider it important in the kind of application that we make. With all this said, Windows Forms is not going anywhere. Windows Forms is the most common way to build UI, just as Win32 API is the way to build apps on Windows and Linux. The choice of the technology depends on the level of the experience that we need in one particular case. And when designing the architecture of the application the decision about technology comes naturally. We’re not using MS Build for WinForms because it has no support for multi-project solutions. If we would use MS Build to generate an installable package for every single configuration of the application, we’ll end up with even more bloated and error prone build and packaging process. It means that the IDE environment is a key aspect of productivity. For our purposes, the current Microsoft IDEs are not ideal. 6a6f617c0c
