Tikal merge encoding and xml:lang bugs?
Original [issue 197](https://code.google.com/p/okapi/issues/detail?id=197) created by ...@mobileink.com on 2011-12-04T05:35:10.000Z:
What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. tikal -tl ar -x source.xml (encoding="utf-8", xml:lang="en-US" attribs) 2. translate a few segs 3. tikal -m source.xml.xlf
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The output file should have encoding="utf-8", but instead it has encoding="MacRoman". Also should it no have xml:lang="ar"? Instead it preserves xml:lang="en-US"
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
tikal 2.0.14, Mac OS X 10.7.2
Please provide any additional information below.
I would have asked on the user group, but it seems to require a yahoo account, which requires that I divulge personal information to yahoo, which I decline. I don't suppose the user group could be moved to a less obnoxious provider?

Comment [1.](https://code.google.com/p/okapi/issues/detail?id=197#c1) originally posted by @ysavourel on 2011-12-05T13:15:33.000Z:
a) xml:lang not being updated: That's not implemented (and should be).
b) encoding changed to MacRoman: I cannot reproduce it. When extracting/merging a document labelled with UTF-8 I get back a UTF-8 file.
