    Is this consistent with the argument to move more into extensions?

    Basic is just for RP not server. Perhaps some IdP will only deploy features consistent with Basic.

    I don't think we have the option to drop the basic client profile for political reasons.

    If it becomes a de facto relying party standard, that is fine because it is easy to adopt by design. That is our explicit design criteria.
