logical cameras stopped showing models

Issue #105 resolved
dan created an issue

I just updated ariac_ws and now none of the logical cameras show models. The configurations have not changed and sensor views show that the cameras are covering bins with parts as well as a shipping box. The logical cameras report their pose correctly, but all the models are empty lists, for example:

models: [] pose: position: x: -0.55 y: 1.145 z: 1.54 orientation: x: -0.496880137844 y: -5.13831469851e-14 z: 0.867819179678 w: -8.97425295754e-14

The same configuration files produce good output on another machine that has not been updated. dpkg shows that both machines have version 2.05 of ariac2, so it seems to be the updated ariac_ws. I deleted it and re-cloned, but have the same problem.

I encountered something similar before I saw that the max distance for the logical cameras had changed. I had to update my configuration to move them closer to the bins.

!! That is exactly the problem. I moved the cameras 5 cm closer and they are working. Thanks for the quick help.

Is there some way to be notified when an important parameter like this changes? This problem cost me an entire day.

Looks like your questions have been resolved by participants @stgray and @rmerriam over the weekend (thanks for your responses!).

I'll just add that we (OSRF) take care to maintain the Updates page because we don't want changes like this to trip users up. If you haven't subscribed yet to https://discourse.ros.org/t/4009, it's a good way to get notifications when that page changes.

This information should have been communicated to teams: if you haven't been receiving emails from ariac@nist.gov please let us know. They are sent through MailChimp which has a chance to get caught in spam filters.
