Feature Request : Separate Wifi settings from Wan settings

Issue #163 wontfix
Cedric Alexandre created an issue

Hello,

Please Pedro,

While i admire your work, i wonder why Wifi settings are on the same page than WAN settings ???

Each time I change a wifi channel, it disconnect me from PPPOE…
It was not the case on Tomato Polarcloud, and other Tomato distribution or even DDWRT…
I can imagine there is much more important things to do, and i am not a specialist in developpment, but if you have some time, someday, would you want to separate those two settings please (Wan and Wifi settings)…

Thank you very much, and if I can help (with French translation for example / functionalities test) I would be glad…

Expanding the notes on the Overview tab it reads

“By definition, configuration settings for the primary VIF of any physical wireless interfaces shouldn't be touched here (use the Basic/Network page instead).“

So there’s kind of a reason to be “scared”.

I know anout it, but I have not encountered any bad action after saving changes on this page.

Just use it and see if everything's fine. As I said before, every time I have to change something in WL, I use this page.

    I tried, and :

1st time i switcher 5ghz from 56 to 153, it worked, then i tried 153 to 56, and i my wifi connected computer wasn’t able to connect to google.com / yahoo.com, then I disabled/enabled wifi on my computer and it worked again

I decided to try another time, and same problem but it took longer after i (disabled/enabled wifi) to retrieve a web page (yahoo.com)

I also notified my wifi speed in MacOS Wifi Settings dropping from 1080 → 720 - > 585 → 720 - > 585 → 526 Mbps. It seem this is not the right way to change wifi settings. I will restart the router to make things right

I am not a develloper or a wifi specialist, but it is faster to switch channel or change a wifi setting from Basic.

its a difficult topic. If you just change (pure) wireless settings like channel, channel width or control sideband for example - advanced-wlanvifs page will do that job without problems.

But it will be difficult if it comes to wireless modes like Media Bridge, Ethernet Bridge or Wireless Client → here we need to change/adjust the WAN & LAN setup and thats is why we have the wl radio things at the basic-network page. (and also this Note “By definition, configuration … “)

We do not check if only pure wireless settings changed at basic-network page and therefore we apply all.

    As @M_ars said:

But it will be difficult if it comes to wireless modes like Media Bridge, Ethernet Bridge or Wireless Client → here we need to change/adjust the WAN & LAN setup and thats is why we have the wl radio things at the basic-network page. (and also this Note “By definition, configuration … “)

So it's impossible to separate these settings, because WAN settings are dependent on WL and vice versa.
