Introduce tabs into the wireless-survey page to split information for 2.4GHz and 5GHz

Issue #68 resolved

As an improvement to the wireless survey page would be great to have a tabbed view split by wireless frequency where a user can focus on either (since they don’t interfere with each other).

Yes, but 3 tabs would be better. A combined 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz tab, 2.4 GHz tab and 5 GHz tab.

Because, I live in a very WiFi crowded area and am fighting for every dB I can get. I often have to switch channels between 2.4GHz and 5GHz manually just to get on the internet. It’s very sad, I’m hoping the new WiFi 6E frequency will ease my burden at least for a little while. 8 (

If your area is crowded having both info on the same tab will make even more unreadable. You should use 5GHz by default nowadays as specifically AC as it performes really well with interferences.

Yes, I prefer the 5GHz frequency, but as I have already said, it is being heavily used already.

First, I check the RSSI and Signal Strength of 2.4GHz and 5Ghz to select my target frequency.

Second, I will switch over to a single frequency view, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz to select my channel.

Third, I will manually change my frequency and channel. My connection will usually be good for about a 1 hour after this.

And yes, I have already tried different routers and changing the Automatic, Advanced\Wireless settings. The New “AC-PHY Interference Mitigation” options really helped, but it’s to slow to react. What I really need is a “Aggressive\Fast Acting” Asuswrt-Merlin like adjustable RSSI Roaming function.

I will probably just buy a “WiFi 6E Mesh System”, when they finally become available, just for there extra frequencies, channels and excellent “Aggressive\Fast Acting” Roaming capabilities .

    Update:

I just did a WiFi scan of my area (2:15 pm, after 5:00 pm it gets much worst) . There are currently between 50- 70 wifi clients fighting for the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz airwaves.

    Yeah, I’m going to need a “WiFi 6E Mesh System” … 8 (

Shall we instead of using tabs, implement a filter like in the bandwidth/IP stats?

    What would be the filters?

    • Frequency (2.4Ghz / 5Ghz)
    • Channels?
    • Security (WPA2 / WEP / …)
    • Rate (11b/g/n / 11ac

@Etienne, the program I am currently using for this is WifiInfoView v2.65 from:

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_information_view.html

It shows everything in one view, then allows you to sort the various information by clicking the column tab. It’s perfect.

But, to see just the 2.4GHz or 5GHz channels, I need to select:

    Options

    Advanced Options

[ check] Show only networks in the specified channels

    and enter 40-999.

It's a serious pain. I would much rather just use the FT GUI instead. So, I understand the need to see just the 2.4GHz or 5GHz channels only. There is just too much information there at one time to find what your looking for. This is why I agree with RS232 for the need to some how separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels.

But, I also need to see the RSSI and Signal Strength of “all” the available frequencies ”first”.

The “Tools\Wireless Site Survey” combined view is perfect, except there also needs to be some way to view “only” the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz channels.

    A “2.4GHz + 5GHz” tab, “2.4GHz” tab and “5GHz” tab, should be perfect.

    I hope this helps, later.

If and whenever this topic is to be picked up I would also include a “min threshold” below wich picked signals/networks are not displayed.

This is particularly important if you like in a flat or dense area and you currently see dozen of networks. Chances are you just want to know about the strongest (nearest) ones.

rs232: a easy solution could be a filter (drop down selection) at tools-survey.asp to select “2.4 GHz only” or “5 GHz only” or “both”. The scan result cotains all and the user would only see what he wants after filter-selection.

BUT: My GUI skills are not very good 🙂
