J98

This was a Jumpman project started in 1998 and inspired by some FORTRAN code I was using at the time (don't ask.)

The original was build with Borland C v3 and used direct access to the VGA, keyboard and so on. It was later modified to work with DJGPP.

This version is using SDL2 instead of direct access but all graphics are still done by blitting a 320x240 block of bytes to screen.

Tested on:

  • Windows 10
  • OS X 10.11
  • Linux Ubuntu 15.10
  • Raspberry Pi (Raspbian)
  • FreeBSD

Building/Installing

All files are available from the Downloads section.

Binaries are provided for Windows (J98-1.0-win.zip) and OS X (J98_1.0.dmg.) Windows 8.1 and later should work without further dependencies but earlier versions may have to get the Visual C++ redistributable for Visual Studio 2015.

Linux users can build from source (j98-1.0.tar.gz) using the standard ./configure && make command line. The SDL2 development packages are required and should be available from your package manager.

The complete source is in j98-1.0-allsrc.zip.

Building from source on Windows requires Visual Studio 2015 and NuGet to be installed.

On OS X, XCode is required, or it may be possible to build using the Linux method (I haven't tested it.)
