Test file::

However, if a caption is specified, it works as expected.

    Now I get this error: ...share/texmf/tex/context/third/rst/rst_directives.lua:134: bad argument #3 to 'stringformat' (string expected, got table)

    If I add caption, it's working. By the way, can I use the images without captions within tables?

    I’m afraid no. In table cells only inline markup is processed. Also, images are mapped to TeX floats which would conflict with use in tables.
