UseTFS / Troubleshooting

Increasing logging level

UseTFS jira plugin

You can "hack" UseTFS to enable debug logging (but take caution - the log files eat up HDD space quickly). In order to do that:

  • Download UseTFS jar from Atlassian Marketplace
  • Rename to zip and open in some archive manager (e.g. WinRAR or 7-zip)
  • Replace contents of log4j.properties with the following code
log4j.appender.R=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
log4j.appender.R.File=C:/usetfs-jira.log
log4j.appender.R.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.R.layout.ConversionPattern=%d %t %m%n

log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG,R

#####################################################
# Comment out the lines below for extreme debugging
# Should log all XML traffic between JIRA and TFS
# if rootLogger is set to DEBUG
#####################################################
log4j.logger.ms=OFF
log4j.additivity.ms=false
log4j.logger.com.microsoft.tfs=OFF
log4j.additivity.com.microsoft.tfs=false
  • You can also change file locations under log4j.appender.R.File=C:/usetfs-jira.log
  • Make sure that files in archive contain your changes
  • Rename back to jar
  • Upload to JIRA

UseTFS client

Change the log4net.config file in UseTFS installation directory (by default c:\Program Files (x86)\UseTFS\) and replace all occurrences of <levelMin value="WARN" /> with <levelMin value="DEBUG" />

This should result in some more output in CurrentLog.txt
