I guess this would require modification to the smc program rather than a mod chip feature.

But I will put it out there would be cool to use the lcd when the console is powered off to have a clock and use it as an alarm clock.

Yeah, it's way out of scope. Better build yourself a custom solution with an arduino or something.

The XBlast Modchip requires direct interface via the LPC bus to do anything. Without the LPC bus going on, the CPLD just pretty much stays idle(assuming it's still powered ON).
