fail in working with inkscape?

Anonymous created an issue

I installed the latex inkscape (0.47) and pstoedit 3.45. But when I run the texlatex, it first show a dialog "Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected." and there is another message box behind it "TexText working, please wait ...", then everything is hang forever, I can't even input a text in the dialog ...

    It works for me with Inkscape 0.47.

    The dialog "... received additional data..." has a text box which displays what was the additional data. This typically contains an error message: what does it say?

    I didn't see a dialog "... received addition data" ...

    And I try to run textext.py, but it returns

    Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\textext.py", line 56, in <module> from lxml import etree ImportError: No module named lxml

    What does it means?

    If you want to try the development version, replace your existing textext.py with it; don't try to run it as it may require stuff provided only by the Python bundled with inkscape.

    I'm having the same problem. The error message I get is

    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inklatex.py", line 7, in <module>
        import xml.dom.ext.reader.Sax2
    ImportError: No module named ext.reader.Sax2

    This a reply for the first post: "Inkscape has received additional data ....". I've got the same problem. The most probable is that textext missing some libraries or programs to run, but for some reasons it does not tell this to you. I spent some time on exploring the textext.py code and found the following.

    Actually the program starts at last two lines

    e = TexText() e.affect()

    affect is the method of inkex.Effect - ancestor of TexText. Affect then calls effect - the method which is overwritten in TexText class.

    So finally is conclusion: TexText.effect is the place where program may start to have problems. I started to search the mistake by adding these two lines somewhere into TexText.effect method:

    stopwin = Tk.Tk() stopwin.mainloop()

    This code just opens empty window and the program does not continue to run until you close this window.

    So - if you get this opened window then everything before stopwin lines is ok. But if you don't get then something is wrong!

    Make some try and trial game by placing stopwin code in different places and you'll find what is wrong. For me it was pdf->svg convertor missing. I reinstalled that convertor and that worked!

    Good luck

    stopwin = Tk.Tk() stopwin.mainloop() should be read as two separate lines:

    stopwin = Tk.Tk()

    I have identical error here:

    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "inklatex.py", line 7, in <module>
        import xml.dom.ext.reader.Sax2
    ImportError: No module named ext.reader.Sax2

    However it doesn't happen when using TexText from menu, but when I press "LaTexText..." in the Extensions menu (wherever that thing came from). Just wondering, perhaps some other users are confusing different extensions?
