divergence from natbib on obscure authors

I have

@​String{etal = { and {et al.}}} .... @​Misc{ gsl, author = "Gough, Brian"#etal, year = "1998--", title = "{GSL}: {GNU} {S}cientific {Library}", url = "http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/", }

I have been using this form for bib entries of software with too many contributors too reference them all ;-)

it gets processed by pybtex (1.5) differently from natbib (< for natbib, > for pybtex)
