Can You Also Use UDP?
Issue #3
invalid
Hi ra,
From my understanding about Tor and the Tor Gateway you're supposed to use an OpenVPN server only on TCP? But today by mistake I connected to a server through UDP and ran the Tor Gateway and I was running Tor through the VPN, I checked the IP online and I was surfing online and it was working...
So can you use the Tor Gateway/Tor with UDP too?
thanks

reporter Ok, I just don't understand how I was able to then get online...
Hmm
Thanks ra

repo owner It most probably was a TCP connection. IIRC openvpn retries with TCP when UDP fails a few times.

reporter Odd because in my openvpn.conf I had it as;
proto udp
And there is a server that has the same IP address but it is shown with a different port and proto tcp-client
hmm

Since Tor allows TCP only and the gateway VM drops all UDP traffic (apart from DNS), it is not possible to use UDP-based applications.
