Route Coordinates

Issue #192 resolved
Rick Brice created an issue

Is there a route coordinate system in OpenBrIM?

I'd like to locate the bridge components relative to the alignment. Such as, positioning a line at Station 1+00, 15' Left of the Alignment measured along a line a bearing N 23 45 15 W, 8" below the alignment surface.

Sure -- if a geometric object (Surface, Volume, Line) is assigned an alignment, it will be placed on the alignment at the specified station (X), transverse offset (Y) and elevation (Z). And depending on the placement rule (None, Orient or Warp) it will be following the alignment. For more information on these, take a look at this document.

In your example, bearing N 23 45 15 W, 8" should be built into the alignment, otherwise, the object will either follow the alignment or will go off of it at certain rotation. If bearing N 23 45 15 W, 8" is not along the alignment line, then you can create a new alignment with that bearing and assign to the graphical object.

Here is an example project demonstrating how graphical objects (Surface, Volume, Line) behaves when assigned an alignment based on the placement rule.
