Inconsistency in manner of defining material for shape of section

A. ADD SECTION IN ASSETS

1. Add Section - named SEC1 by default

• Material of section initially not asked to be defined, therefore no material for the section is shown in Edit Section in Objects explorer

Draw free shape

• Material of shape initially not asked to be defined, therefore no material for the shape is shown in Edit Shape in Objects explorer
• Edit point in Objects explorer
  • Values initially shown
  • Input values to define coordinates

2. Add Section - named SEC2 by default

• Material of section initially not asked to be defined, therefore no material for the section is shown in Edit Section in Objects explorer

Add shape from Template

• Material of shape initially needs to be selected from dropdown, therefore material for the shape is shown in Edit Shape in Objects explorer
• Edit point in Objects explorer
  • Formula initially shown
  • Edit formula or input values to define coordinates

3. Import Custom Section

Input details in Add Shape popup

• Material initially needs to be selected from dropdown
  • Material is shown for the section in Edit Section in Objects explorer
  • No material is shown for the shape in Edit Shape in Objects explorer
• Edit point in Objects explorer
  • Formula initially shown
  • Edit formula or input values to define coordinates

B. ADD SECTION IN OBJECTS EXPLORER

Add Section - named Section1 by default

• Material of section initially not asked to be defined, therefore no material for the section is shown in Edit Section in Objects explorer

Shape is added automatically: 1 unit x 1 unit

• Material of shape initially not asked to be defined, therefore no material for the shape is shown in Edit Shape in Objects explorer
• Edit point in Objects explorer
  • Values initially shown
  • Input values to define coordinates

Also, is it necessary to assign material to the shape if the material for the section has already been defined?

For a composite section, for example a steel section inside a concrete section, I understand that the material for each shape needs to be defined. What then should be defined as the material for the whole section itself?
