fix axes in Lecture 1 example, c.f. issue #3

Recent updates in matplotlib has resulted in this issue: https://bitbucket.org/rjleveque/uwhpsc/issues/3/lecture1-axes-limits-are-incorrect

This pull request changes 2 lines to make the code compatible with recent matplotlib versions.
