Jumping towards a monster that requires you to pass a check to close in triggers the check.

However it doesn't actually move your character if you don't pass the check.

Well, I found it odd since it doesn't actually put you in any danger. Say if you actually made the jump until the distance the check has to be made at then failed and didn't move further that'd seem intended. As it is you can try to jump endlessly from out of reach until you make it through.

Makes sense. What do you suggest it do? Give the monster a free attack or something. Or clumbsiness damage chance or something.

Hm, I'd probably go for making it put you close enough to the monster for the check and provoke an AoO if you fail. Early on jumping is already very awkward so taking damage on failure would be a side effect that isn't needed.
