Change the Readme file to markdown.

Currently bitbucket is not rendering it correctly. Make that happen.

    I cannot do this because automake mandates that I have a file named README and I do not want to have two readme files. If we ever get rid of automake then we can change this. I will edit the readme file so that this comment is taken note of.
