Preferred Linux Distribution

First download the OS:

Get Ubuntu 14.04

• Download Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 (64 bit)
• Burn it on to a USB key instructions
  • Alternatively, ask the TAs for a key with the install files
• Now you have an OS installer, time to actually install it

Install on Windows

• Follow these instructions

Install on Mac

• Follow these instructions (these might be useful too: instructions)
• In case you get into some weird partition errors:
  • You probably have an inconsistent file system
  • You have to fix the system by booting into single user mode:
    • No rEFIt installed: apple+s
    • With rEFIt installed: At the rEFIt main menu, highlight the OSX boot partition (the big blue apple), Press F2. Boot options will appear: Select 'Boot Mac OS X in single user mode' and press enter.
  • Now type /sbin/fsck -fy
  • Try the partition again
