with "open" you mean "details"? In this case, both buttons would bring you to the race details page. Or do you want a direct link from race list to registration?

Yes, I mean "details". That's a better term for the button.

Do you think a Register button on the race list is beneficial? I'd prefer to have people see the race details first.

I agree. Just have a details button, and then the registration button is down one level.
