Self Service Email change malfunctioning and allow alternative email addresses

Issue #579 resolved

Background: My email account associated with Rowsandall is <…@mac.com> which is an alias of an Apple iCloud account <…@icloud.com> (I have actually been using the mac.com address since Apple first allowed email addresses, long before the iPhone or iCloud existed). On my phone, the default email address is <…@icloud.com> because I need to be signed into my Apple account to use the phone, and they do not have a preference to use an alias as the default. This means that in the past, whenever I am emailing my workouts from the NKLink app to rowsandall (using the NKLink “export” function) I need to manually select <…@mac.com> as the sender for each email. This is slightly annoying because it adds two taps to each export, but no big deal.

Problem: Since updating to the new version of iOS 14, the phone ignores what I tell it when I manually select <…@mac.com> as the sender for the export emails. Instead, it goes ahead and sends them for me as <…@icloud.com>, as I have confirmed by going to my desktop computer and looking in my Sent Mail folder. I have filed a bug report with Apple.

Workaround? Until Apple decides to fix the bug (if ever) is there a way to have the <…@icloud.com> email associated with my Rowsandall account as well as the <…@mac.com> address, so that my exports do not fail? If not, can I change the email account associated with my Rowsandall membership without losing my current and historical data?

Argh, this new iOS is infuriating … now when I email from my phone, even though the “send from” field is <…@icloud.com> the sender is actually <…@mac.com> so it is broken in a different way. And when I go to rowsandall.com and try to change my email back to …@mac.com from gkk@icloud.com I get the same “this address can’t be used” error. I apologize for bothering you again, but could you change the email back to <…@mac.com> and see if it sticks for me this time?

Solution

  • Fix Email self service change
  • Add a user field with alternative email addresses
