Application cannot detect broken connection even when using ping manager

The ping manager automatically pings the server, but it does neither inform the application on a detected timeout nor does it automatically reconnect. If the client wants to detect a broken connection, it must instead manually invoke ping it is own timer. This is not nice. The automatic ping should either inform the application or restart the session or both.
