Alt + s + resistor, capacitor, whatever, place it

click, move resistor, whatever. I've placed it down. If I don't hit Esc and immediately go to place another element
Alt + s + resistor, capacitor, whatever
Both the previous element and the new element placed are selected. If I got to move the element I just placed by hitting m, it'll move both of them. Can you have it so placing a new element only selects the element that was just placed?

No, I'd rather have move be deactivated whenever any other command other than rotating (like placing a new component) is used.

I've changed the code a bit to address this issue. You might want to give the develop branch a shot.

Just to be clear, you still want to stay in move mode after placing the second component?
