Wiki Page naming issue

If I have a wiki page which has periods in the page title (e.g. "abc.def.ghi"), then the following happens:
a) I save the page. It saves properly.
b) In the home page I can create a link to this page and navigate to it.
c) Now in this wiki page, if I hover the mouse over the edit button, it OMITS the last fragment of the page name i.e. ".ghi" from the page name in the link. Hence if I click the edit button, it displays the message "Oops, it looks like that file doesn't exist".

It looks like that any fragment of the page name after the LAST period is being omitted.
