Markdown renderer crashes with this snippet (BB-8932)

Copy and paste the following- Actually, you can't. Please refer to the attached image for the snippet that crashes the Markdown renderer.

The original issue was with the wiki. If I typed in the snippet shown in the image and previewed, it would throw an error about rendering. If I ignored the error and saved the wiki page, I would be unable to view the page (until I get the wiki repo and remove the offending snippet..)

But.. It would appear that the bug is in any component that uses the Markdown renderer, including the issue tracker.. I bet if I had filed this issue by typing in the snippet directly, no one would be able to view this. What irony it would have been, eh?
