Issue #3819 resolved

issue email subject format change breaks my filters

The format of the subject line in issue e-mails seems to have changed sometime in the last week or so. Were we warned this would change? There's no mention of it in the bitbucket blog.

In my opinion this is a gratuitous change. I fail to see what advantage this format has over the previous one. It has a major disadvantage, however: it likely breaks any filters which bitbucket users may have set up to process/direct messages from bitbucket issues. It broke mine, at least. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

We did indeed change the email subjects recently. We should've put out a warning about it beforehand. Sorry about that.

The change was mainly to improve notifications for pull requests and comments, which were a horrible mess:

The format for issue notifications wasn't nearly as bad, but we're trying to move toward a single format for all repo-related notifications. I think the new format's a lot easier to understand at a glance--it looks more like a real email thread. You also see who triggered the notification in the from field, and more notifications thread correctly now.

I hope that explains the rationale. Did you have any email filters that you weren't able to update to work with the new format?
