Issue #8318 open

Can't mention users with leading underscores in names (BB-9457)

I discovered if a user with a name like __John_Smith__ exists, I cannot mention them using @. The underscores seem to be parsed as formatting before the @.

    Hi John,

We have a three-character minimum query length for mentions. You won't see results for _ or __, but __j will begin yielding the appropriate results.

If you don't see results after entering at least three characters, then there is a definitely a bug somewhere and I'd like to collect more information, such as where you are attempting to mention the user and which browser you're using.

    Let me know.

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hi, thanks for response.

The auto-suggest for mentions is working fine, the issue is that the mentions are not actually working, it is displayed wrongly in the issue text.

I don't know if you can see my repo but this illustrates this: https://bitbucket.org/jdx_john/simed/issue/33/reorganise-assets-rundir-directory - I mentioned two users but one person's name starts and ends with two underscores and this is being treated as formatting. If you can't see that page let me know and I can get screenshots to clarify.
