Unable to Confirm Email

I have an account that I have had for 6-8 months. I tried to add an alternative email to the system, got the confirm now email clicked it and got the error message:

We were unable to confirm the email address. The validation email may have expired.

I went back to my manage account link, clicked the resend confirmation link , again got a confirm here email, clicked it and again got the same message
