Can't create branch that has deleted branch as first path segment

How to reproduce:

1. Create a branch with name x
2. Delete the branch
3. Create a branch so the branch name is x/*

My specific name for the branch was release and I tried to later create a branch with the name release/1.2.6

I then got the error that the branch name is invalid.
