Omnibar not appearing in new UI unless window is clicked (BBCDEV-6359)

I'm having an issue where the omnibar won't appear in the new UI unless I click in the window. For example if I reload the page and tap "." nothing happens, but clicking anywhere in the window makes it work. So does for example searching for an item, cancelling that search using Esc and then using ".".

I'm using Chome 57.0.2987.133 on Mac OS.
